Nomads lose to Hilton in the second match of the season
The Nomads batted first and fielded what looked like a strong batting line up on paper. They were immediately on the back foot as opener Shah was bowled for a duck. Bastable and Gardner were looking good and had added 50 runs before Bastable was bowled for 33. Aneek Mahmood was then superbly caught and bowled by Charlie Harrison for another duck.
Wickets began to tumble as Gardner was run out for 20. Parsonage hit the shot of the innings a big 6 over long on and was then bowled by Imrankhan Babul for 12. Fearon was out second ball lbw for another duck, Bryars quickly followed bowled for Babul’s third wicket and the fifth duck of the innings.
Izan Babul was given an over but struggled to bowl a legal delivery but when he did Clinton (5) clipped it straight to backward square leg and was well caught.
Last pair Hughes and Cartwright managed to eke out over 20 runs, Hughes was last batter out lbw for 6.
The final total of 106 was well short of the required total. Tea was taken early, very early.
Defending 106 seemed very unlikely but two wickets for Mahmood, both bowled, and one for Hughes, caught by Bastable, saw Hilton slip to 23 for 3. But that was as good as it got.
Jack Bloor and Max Barber steadied the ship and began to build a match winning partnership. Barber was hitting the ball in the air a lot, Bloor played more classically.
The change bowlers could not make the breakthrough and there were no alarms for the Hilton pair apart from Fearon getting finger tips to a sharp caught and bowled chance.
Hilton ran out comfortable winners by 7 wickets with 22 overs to spare.
106 was a disappointing batting performance but it could have been even worse if Hilton had held their catches. The race for the Gonad trophy is truly up and running with 5 ducks registered.
