Lichfield Nomads C.C. v D2 Sutton Police C.C.

Nomads lose to D2

Lichfield Nomads won the toss and elected to bat on what proved to be a strip with variable bounce. After Gardner was caught behind off the pacy R.Hudson, Loxley and Bastable built a promising partnership taking the score to 39 of 6 overs until Loxley’s full blooded drive was well caught in the covers. Bastable showed good shot selection as his innings progressed but wickets were falling at the other end and when he was out for a well made 16 the score was 64 for 7. Fearon tried to steady the ship, batting sensibly and putting on 16 runs with Pickering. But the Nomads score of 82 off 25 overs looked well short.
Kalpesh, opening the bowling for the first time for the Nomads, bowled Craig with his third ball. Clenton had only one stump to aim at when his throw from the boundary ran out Hazelwood, giving the Nomads a glimmer of hope. Clenton’s following bowling spell was economical, including three consecutive maidens, one of which was a wicket maiden ( Bird well caught behind by Rolfe ). Despite the Nomads’ low total the bowlers were giving it their all and were well supported in the field. But batters Lewis and Marsh steadily accumulated runs and reached the Nomads’ score in the 23rd over.
