Nomads snatch Victory over Trent Valley
Lichfield Nomads won the toss and decided to bat. The openers got off to a steady start with a partnership of 31 with Gibson hitting 5 fours. Timmis was bowling with swing and movement off the the seam and claimed the first two wickets. Shah joined Moss at the crease at the fall of the third wicket and the pair went on to put on a partnership of 68 off 15 overs. Shah showed attacking flair with lofted shots to the boundary. Moss showed good shot selection and a gritty determination in his first innings after an ankle injury. When Shah was run out for 40, Moss, supported by Bastable and the lower order took the score to a creditable 178 off 40 overs with Moss carrying his bat for 34 not out.
Trent Valley openers Timmis and Saleem kept the scoreboard ticking over without offering any chances despite accurate bowling from Hughes and Turnbull. They put on 37 before Saleem was out LBW to Ian Hughes in the 11th over. He was shortly followed by Timmis in the 13th for a well made 26. Rylea Hughes’ swing bowling then claimed the wicket of Upton. But this brought Russell and Iqbal together and they started to accumulate runs, batting confidently and spreading the field.
At the second drinks interval the score was 139 for 3 off 30 overs. The Nomads total looked at least 20 runs too short. But drinks, as they say, often brings a wicket. In Gibson’s 4th over Iqbal’s firmly hit drive was well caught on the boundary at long off by Shah (wearing sunglasses - the ball came directly out of the low sun). And 2 balls later he bowled Sharp. Russell was soon to follow, stumped by Cal Tudor after coming down the wicket to Gibson. Russell (66) and Iqbal (39) had put on a partnership of 85 runs. Moss’s spin at the other end accounted for 3 of the remaining wickets as Trent Valley reached a total of 162 off 36.1 overs.
