Performance of the Year Award
Contenders
Another great season, with many notable individual highlights & contributions.
Pete Gardner
Another 100+ score, achieved in the hot sun away at Trentside in early June, including a record 4th wicket stand with Jon Loxley of 141, helping us out to an 89 run victory.
Jon Loxley
Hatrick with his first 3 balls & thus changing the game against a strong Wednesbury side, helping us to what is believed to be our first victory against them. First ball bowling Russell for 92, second ball saw Bleakley edging to the keeper & the Hatrick ball getting Vavu plumb LBW.
Cameron Bliss
Although not technically a Nomad yet, we have to mention Cameron’s 100 not out on debut, before retiring, versus Wednesbury.
Where he smashed the ball to all parts of the ground, helping guide us to 170 for 1 at drinks, with the help of Gards & Aneek.
Ultimately getting us to our 3rd highest ever score of 282-7 & helping us secure victory.
Marc Hutton
A Man of the Match performance in the first match of the season away at Tutbury. Claiming bowling figures of 6 overs, 4 wickets for 10 runs, and guiding us to victory with 48 not out with the bat.< br />
Marc’s second appearance on the list, this time for his performance versus Hilton, with a 95 not out performance with the bat, helping us to 266 for 4 & returning figures of 8 overs, 4 wickets for 22 runs, & thus securing a 23 run victory for the Nomads.
THE WINNER IS
MARC HUTTON FOR THE 95 NOT OUT & 4 FOR 22 VERSUS HILTON
The Ray Jennett Trophy for the Most Valuable Player (MVP)
Contenders
Another great season, with lots of players getting votes, with four really scoring
heavily. As has been mentioned before, a total of 40 votes would usually win this
award & this year is no exception, but multiple players attaining over 30, it was a
very close run thing.
The four notable achievements were:
Pete Gardner - 18 Votes from 20 games
Aneek Mahmood - 33 Votes from 17 games
Marc Hutton - 35 Votes from 7 games
Jon Loxley - 36 Votes from 12 games
SO THE WINNER IS
JON LOXLEY
WITH A 1 VOTE LEAD OVER MARC AND A 3 VOTE MARGIN OVER LAST YEARS WINNER ANEEK
Fielder of the Year Award
Contenders
With the age profile of the Nomads putting some pressure on us in the field, we are usually at a disadvantage to most teams we face from the start.
However, we have seen some great fielding performances again this year.
Whilst not the determining factor for the why this trophy is awarded, the catching highlights are as follows.
Rich Bastable - 6 catches from 13 matches played.
Dan Lee - 7 catches from 15 matches played.
Dave Rolfe - 7 catches and 4 stumpings from 15 matches played.
Aneek Mahmood - 8 catches from 17 matches, not all off his own bowling.
Other Mentions - Notably, Tom Scurlock for having to chase the ball all over the field, particularly when sweeping the boundary.
Marc Hutton for 4 catches in 7 matches, along with speed over the ground.
Dan Moss for a remarkable 4 catches in 3 matches!
Helping to fill in for Rolfy behind the stumps, Cam Bliss taking a catch & 2 stumpings in 2 matches played, and
Rana, taking 4 catches and 2 stumpings in his 8 matches.
We recorded 4 run outs with 2 of those being credited to Jon Loxley.
THE WINNER IS
RICH BASTABLE FOR HIS 6 CATCHES AND GENERAL GREAT FIELDING THROUGHOUT THE SEASON
Golden Gonad Guard Award (Gonad of the Year)
Contenders
Competition was fierce again this year for this much coveted, now newly refurbished, trophy.
Not quite as closely fought over as last year though, with previous winner Jimmy Cogzell not even bothering to register an interest.
In all we amassed 19 ducks or Gonads,
compared with 27 last year, 32 in 2019 and an all time high of 35 in 2004, so standards are slipping somewhat.
Looking at this season we had 14 players in the hunt but only 3 managing to not trouble the scorers on more than one occasion.
Those making a serious play for the trophy were are as follows.
Rich Bastable - 2 from his 12 innings, these being at Trentside and Woore, but registering a creditable 180 runs meant he would be very lucky to win it.
Sam Bryars - A very creditable 2 from his 4 innings, so a good ration here, these being at Audlem and Sportsman, while registering 69 runs, meant it would be an extraordinary sequence of events for him to take home the trophy.
Other Mentions - Although not now a member, Matt Barker’s memorable duck in his only innings of the season at Hampton in Arden was one of 4 that day.
Fuzz managed a very creditable one zero from 2 innings, amassing on 3 runs on his other visit. Cam Bliss had a contrasting season 2 innings one duck & one century - a week apart! Nick Bryars also deserves a mention for his effort of 1 blank from 3 innings.
HAVING WON IT TWICE BEFORE - 1994 WITH 3 (RAY J INELIGIBLE ON 4), AND IN 1999 (INCLUDING A FIRST BALL OF THE SEASON QUACKER), WITH 4 (GRAEME B INELIGIBLE ON 4), BUT SHORT OF THE ALL TIME RECORD OF 6 BY FUZZ IN 2004 AND OF 5 BY HUGHESY IN 2010 & AKIN HUSSEIN IN 1995 AND1993.
FOR EFFORTS AGAINST MARTINS, OLD MOSELEY FITMEN, DRAYCOTT & HANBURY & TRENT VALLEY, FROM HIS 7 INNINGS AND SCORING 39 RUNS.
PUTTING HIM JOINT 3RD ON THE ALL TIME WINNERS LIST WITH JOHN HODDY, BUT 1 BEHIND AKIN HUSSEIN & 2 BEHIND THE LONG TIME LEADER PETE WILLIS
THE WINNER WITH 4 GONADS IS PAUL FEARON.
