John Taylor batted first in difficult conditions, making 85 for 8 off their allotted overs. Firth starred with the bat making 37 not out. There were useful contributions from Ferguson (12), Taylor (12) and Deadman (10). Heslington took 2-16 and there was 1 wicket each for Greaves, Higginson, Blackburn, Fearon and Cartwright.

By the time Fearon and Gardner opened the batting for the Nomads the rain was falling constantly but this failed to dampen their spirits and they both quickly got their eye in. Fearon took a liking to the short boundaries and thrashed 22 off one over, including 3 sixes on his way to an unbeaten 53. With the score on 84, two runs short of the target, Firth broke the opening stand clean bowling Gardner for 25 and then bowled Graeme Blackburn for a duck. Pinfield avoided the hat trick and knocked the winning runs off with 7.4 overs to spare.
