Nomads win at historic Buxton.

On the ground where first class cricket has been staged in the past (Derbyshire and Lancashire) Nomads secured a surprise victory against a strong Buxton side including a couple of first teamers. The Nomads total of 147 didn't seem enough but four wickets by Steve George helped the Nomads to an excellent 14 run victory.

Pete Gardner continued his fine form with 55 but only three other Nomads reached double figures. The Nomads, after a steady start, declined from 84 for 2 to 112 for 7. A useful partnership between Steve George and son Nick added 28 runs late but the Nomads total of 147 all out didn't look enough.

The Nomads opening bowlers had other ideas as Buxton were quickly on the rack thanks to some excellent bowling from Steve George backed up by John Hoddy. George removed the first three batsmen including the dangerous Bellfield. Buxton were 9 for 3 and then 20 for 4 as Hoddy bowled Button. Even then Buxton could still have won as they eked out the runs to get to 128 for 7 before Steve George struck again to complete a four wicket haul. Allanson was the mainstay of the Buxton batting and he was the last man out for 59, caught by Gardner off the bowling of Hughes, to give the Nomads victory by just 14 runs.
