Nomads fail medical
On a warm and sunny afternoon Lichfield Nomads won the toss and elected to bat. Stanley and Gardner started steadily against some accurate Walsall bowling. Stanley was out for a familiar 9. Caygill batted confidently until bowled ‘ through the gate’ with an inswinger. George kept the momentum going with some sharp singles until caught by the keeper of the glove. Pinfield joined Gardner upping the scoring rate for the highest partnership (38) of the innings. Gardner was eventually out for 74. He was closely followed by Pinfield, Hughes and Blackburn all falling with the score on 133. Fearon carried his bat with 10 not out. The Nomads never really recovered from Nicolls’s three wickets in 7 balls and the final score of 151 looked hard to defend.

When Forster bowled Stevens in the second over it seemed this could be a close contest. Tight bowling from Forster and Hughes saw Walsall progressing steadily, scoring at the same rate as the Nomads. Fearon bowled Gorton in the 15th over with a spearing Yorker and again the Nomads thought they had a chance. Allsop and Fell consolidated the Walsall innings however  and their partnership of 84 proved decisive. Although George bowled Fell in his first over, Walsall reached the Nomads total in the 30th over. Allsop finished with a match winning 80 not out.
