Highgate and Great Barr Unity v Lichfield Nomads Lichfield Nomads: 210 for 9 (40 overs) Highgate and Great Barr Unity: 211 for 2 (27.3 overs) Nomads toil to defeat at Highgate The Nomads lost by 8 wickets to Highgate and Great Barr Unity on an excellent batting track away at Highgate. Nomads posted 210 for 9 with only Gardner going on to make a sizable contribution. The Highgate batsmen soon made quick inroads into the total with some confident stroke play and they reached their target with more than 12 overs to spare. The Nomads batted first and Gardner scored a single off the first ball to bring Heslington on strike who was bowled first ball by the Highgate quickie Suliman. Fearon played a short cameo including two fours through the covers, two fours pulled to deep square leg and a 6 thanks to four overthrows but just as he was looking good, he was clean bowled by Barry for 24. The run rate was up to six an over and the frantic pace continued thanks to some positive Nomads batting, an excellent batting wicket and fast outfield. Pinfield was looking good and commendably walked after the faintest of edges to the keeper for 16, Brannigan scored a quickfire 23 and was bowled by Suliman. The Nomads were 121 for 4 at the halfway stage and a score of 240 was possible with Gardner still going well. Hussein was caught for 6, Westwood was bowled for a duck and Graeme Blackburn scored just 1 as the middle order failed to continue the onslaught. Gards found a useful ally in Nick George, as the pair added 41 before Gardner fell to a similar dismissal to Pinfield for a hard fought 83. Pickering scored 5. George finished on a personal best 17 not out and Hoddy was 0 not out thanks to a final maiden over to reach a total of 210 for 9. Jordan and Tozer got off to a positive start and were soon up with the rate. Brannigan, Heslington and Hoddy all bowled well, even if their figures didn't suggest this. A few catches were dropped but it had little bearing on the result. Fearon took the only wickets, bowling Jordan and later having the other opener Tozer caught on the boundary by Westie. The Nomads were soon demoralised in the heat as the Highgate batsmen cruised towards the required target. George and Westwood bowled brief spells but the damage was done by then and Nomads went down to their seventh defeat of the season by an 8 wicket margin. |
