Lichfield Nomads v Sunseekers Sunseekers 186 for 7 Lichfield Nomads: 184 A warm afternoon saw the Sunseekers win the toss and elect to bat. Hughes and Forster bowled tightly, restricting the rate to 4 an over but it was Heslington who got the first wicket , bowling Lenn and then getting Downes caught behind. A useful partnership of 33 between Carpenter and Ashton was finally broken by Greaves in his first over. Greaves eventually accounted for Carpenter . Hughes and Heslington bowled accurately, restricting Sunseekers to 186 , when 200 had looked possible earlier on. Clear Jug avoidance from Heslington with 4 for 46. Gardner and Stanley opened steadily for the Nomads with a stand of 35 but after they fell in quick succession, followed shortly by Hussein the Nomads needed to consolidate. Pinfield and Pickering then produced what could have been a match winning partnership of 79. Pinfield’s shot selection was impressive, mixing deft leg side glances with powerful cuts and drives in his innings of 56. Pickering played his part, initially defensive but then scoring boundaries . A quickfire 17 from Heslington and boundaries from Hughes kept the momentum going. With 3 needed from the last three balls Greaves was controversially given out lbw by the umpire (Gardner) who didn’t spot the inside edge, giving Sunseekers victory by the narrowest of margins.
