A Nomads side, with a mixture of youth and experience, won the toss again and elected to bat in warm and dry conditions. This time, the top order performed with the opening pair of Gardner (66) and Chris Collins (27) moving the score along. Accurate bowling from C Pickering 6-2-12-1 and R Lanighan 4-1-14-2 put the brakes on the Nomads charge, but Heslington (15) and Brannigan (19)were pushing the score towards 200 when H Thompson 6-0-31-3 bowled a fine Hat trick (All caught) in the last over, to keep the final total competitive.

As in the previous fixture the captain set about using his resource to good effect. The Wednesbury opening pair of Banks (28) and Nightingale (42) mirrored the Nomads opening stand. As in the first innings tight and accurate bowling, firstly from Kevin Collings 8-4-22-2, fresh from last week’s successes, then Heslington 5-1-8-1 put the brakes on and Hoddy 6-1-25-1 had Parsons (34) well stumped by Gardner. Good fielding, especially three catches from Westwood and a good bowling spell late on by Pete Blackburn 6-1-23-2 meant the batting side fell short of the target. Victories for the Nomads and for England, as the Ashes were won this very afternoon.
