With the mercury touching 28 degrees on a hot, late, May Sunday a Nomads side, with an emphasis on youth, won the toss and elected to field on an artificial pitch at Hammerwich CC. The opening bowling of Brannigan and Westwood toiled for little reward but Brannigan’s good spell, with pace, found the edge of Taylors’s bat and Blackburn took a fine catch behind the stumps with the score on 45. It would be another 99 runs before further success, when a good catch from Scott gave Westwood the wicket of Archer. Carpenter continued to play his shots at his pace and was eventually 78 not out. A good spell of bowling by Moss, enhanced by a change of ends half way through, kept the score down. Captain Hughes with the help of Scott’s 2^nd catch, removed Sibson for 0 and Sunseekers arrived at a total of 220 for 6 with the help of 49 extras.

The Nomads opening pair of Gardner and Moss started very well before Moss perished to a catch in the covers with the score on 38 in the 6^th over. With Weir out almost immediately, young Scott pushed the score along until he was clean bowled by Walters. This coincided with a change of bowling by Sunseekers and Fred Ashford came onto bowl and took centre stage. Ashford’s ability to bowl the same length and get the ball to move away at a pace you do not disrespect left the Nomads middle order returning to the pavilion at regular intervals. Fred finished bowling with the score on 117 for 8, figures of 8-3-17-5 and the match won. Craddock batted gamely for 17 and Westwood and Heslington put on 20 for last wicket.
