A Nomads side, with a good mixture of youth and experience, batted first on an afternoon with a heavy bail troubling strong wind blowing across the ground and a rallying call from the Captain for more runs. The opening bowlers for Walsall Health, S Stephens, D Stephens and Tim Oliver gave little to encourage the batting, but partnerships did come from Gardner /Heslington (36) and then Heslington/ Pinfield (33).  A score of 84 for 4 became 102 for 8 and with a little over 4 overs left, there was little prospect of a good total to defend and Walsall Health might have been thinking they had the game won. That is until Collins joined Brannigan and they powerfully raised the score to 147.

The Nomads started their defence of the total believing it was possible to win the game. Brannigan (8-4-16-1) opened and another fine spell of pace and accuracy was rewarded with the wicket of Allsopp LBW. Hoddy opened at the other end and into the wind but had Hartshorne caught by Craddock. Moss replaced Brannigan and then proceeded to bowl the ball of the day. His first ball pitched on leg, hit the top of Fell’s off stump and the home side were 41 for 3 in the 17th over.  Collins (8-3-13-2) took over from Hoddy and bowled the dangerous S Stephens. Hughes replaced Moss and bowled opener Gorton with a full toss. The Nomads also applied pressure in the field. Hughes, Brannigan and George gave strong running and accurate throwing. Closer in, good ground fielding from Craddock, George and Westwood cut out the singles. Heslington, fielding wide of mid off, saved certain boundaries from the off drives of S Stephens. The victory was earned with the last 3 wickets to fall being clean bowled (7 in all) by Moss and Heslington for 1 run.

LNCC won by 51 runs.
