On a muggy day, a 10 man Nomads side again with a good mixture of youth and experience, fielded first. The opening bowlers for the Nomads, Heslington and Hoddy, coped reasonably with the SOTH top order. Hoddy had the always dangerous Johnson LBW and the free hitting Martindale caught by Blackburn, Heslington had Day caught by the Sub fielder and after 14 overs the score was 55 for 3. A brief spell by Captain Westwood was the followed by a period of pressure by the Nomads from the bowling of Collins K (11-4-20-1) and especially Greaves (10-4-17-3) which at one point had SOTH scoring just one run in 6 overs. The high spot of this pressure being the run out of Dajjill, by a country mile, due to good work by wicketkeeper Scott. Fine innings finishing bowling by Blackburn P meant that SOTH were dismissed for 133 in 43 overs. After another grand fielding and bowling performance by the Nomads, the team quite rightly thought at tea there was a chance of winning the game.

Only Gardner and Heslington made double figures in an innings that terminated on 67 for 9. Scott and Hoddy perished while attempting to play good shots through the covers and where well caught. Trevatt’s express pace accounted for 3 of the top 4 and Westwood. Stanley batted for 5* from 52 balls and held an end up while Greaves ended up getting on the wrong end of a dodgy call. On this day, the Nomads batting line up could not cope with the fine Sutton on the Hill bowling and fielding and this gave them their victory.
