Lichfield Nomads v
Church Eaton Lichfield Nomads 295 for 3 v Church Eaton 147 The Nomads put in a record breaking performance to record their sixth win in seven matches. The Nomads record score of 295 for 3 was more than a match for Church's 147 all out. Pete Gardner passed 500 runs for the season and scored 54. Dan Moss finished unbeaten on 96 and Paul Fearon notched his first fifty of the season, ending on 55 not out. Two early wickets put paid to any hope of a weakened Church Eaton side getting close to the Nomads total. They had two 13 year olds and a couple of drafted in dads but they kept batting positively and two middle order batsmen were rewarded with half centuries. Fearon broke the main partnership and then Westwood took a spectacular hat-trick to ensure the Nomads won convincingly. The opposition arrived with a few players short, presumably lost in transit, and inserted the Nomads. Chris Collins continued his recent form with a solid opening partnership with Gardner, newly retired from teaching. Gards soon got the 25 runs he needed for his 500 for the season. Not bad going, 500 before the end of July! Collins was bowled for 28. Brannigan pushed the score along at his usual rate before he was out for 11. Moss joined Gardner and the pair both reached their fifties. Gardner was eventually out for 54. Fearon joined Moss and picked up where they left off at Parkers. Fearon looking more like his old self with a 6 and some powerful hitting. Moss was dropped early on but never looked in trouble again. Despite sleep deprivation after a long drive back from gigging at Great Yarmouth, Moss got better and better hitting some classy cover drives and the pair always pushed the fielding side with plenty of quick ones and twos. Fearon passed his fifty and with the overs running out Moss just failed to reach his century hitting the last ball for four to reach 96 not out. This was the highest ever Nomads score, 295 for 3. Beating the 277 against the same opposition. Westwood took his first hat-trick for the Nomads to clean up the tail and wrap up a comfortable victory. There was some excellent commited fielding with a great slip catch from Caygill, a stunning catch at long on from Greaves and a tricky over the shoulder effort by Fearon. Stanley also chipped in with a run out. Westwood, Brannigan, Collins (Junior!) and Moss all excelled in the field. The opposition were weaker than usual but we have lost to Church Eaton with only 9 men before. All in all an excellent team effort, a hat-trick and a record score.
