Result Burton 3rds won by 109 runs

When Burton saw there was a gap in our fixtures on our website they contacted us and arranged this fixture on the historic Trent Bridge ground. They proved to be an enthusiastic and friendly opposition. Westwood won the toss and put Burton in to bat.  Nomads opening bowlers bowled tightly at first with Burton scoring only 8 off the first 6 overs. Then Egginton started to take advantage of the short boundary when the bowling drifted down the leg side. Hoddy bowled well throughout and eventually dismissed Egginton for 43. Forster and Collins followed with two quick wickets. Hussein’s sharp fielding in the covers was brought to an untimely end when he dislocated a finger. Hibbert (35) and Robinson (24) consolidated the Burton innings scoring several well-hit boundaries. Greaves broke their stand of 39 bowling high into the breeze and Collins continued to take wickets at the other end. Burton still made progress with A Mewis’s unconventional drives adding a valuable 30. Heslington claimed two wickets with an accurate spell of bowling in the final overs. (these may possibly not go towards his average as he’s in the book as R. Edminton).

Nomads opened steadily and after 13 overs were 41 for 1. However any hopes of accelerating the scoring rate were dashed in the next three overs when five wickets  fell for the addition of only one run, three to Rashid who trapped Gardner and Stanley with deliveries which lifted off a length and Weir ( who misjudged the pace of a short pitched ball). The quick bowling of Philips claimed George and Brannigan. It was up to Westwood to rescue the innings with a well-fought and responsible 19 runs. Hoddy provided support in a partnership of 20 runs but by now the Burton total of 195 was out of sight. Nomads are at Sutton on the Hill next week, still looking for the first win of the season.
