Walsall Health v Lichfield Nomads Scores: Walsall Health 133 Nomads 134 for 7; Result: Nomad won by 3 wkts
Winning Run Continues
A short trip to Aldridge saw Nomads confident in continuing their improved form.
A lost toss saw us taking to the field where Brannigan and Hoddy opened the
bowling Fell soon fell to another splendid catch by Westwood followed quickly by
Hartshorne caught by George. Wickets fell quickly , pressure inducing a number
of rash shots and soon Walsall were reeling at 33 for 6 wickets. Hoddy was
allowed to reach 5 wickets to ensure the purchase of a jug for his thirsty team
mates and then taken out of the attack. Westwood and George replaced the openers
and after an erratic start, George produced a fine ball to bowl Oliver. Westwood
bamboozled Atkins with his leg spinner. After brief spells these two were
replaced by Hutton and Hughes. Hughes claimed an lbw and the innings looked
practically over at 66-9, but Walsall had a cunning plan. A phone call to one of
their opening batsmen who was not due to play saw a 10-11 partnership which was
somewhat better than would be expected. This pair scored at a good rate and
Nomads were glad to see Weswood take another excellent, reaction catch to
dismiss Gorton off Heslington when the score was becoming somewhat better than
respectable.
After a good tea, Nomads
had their own cunning plan of just batting out the overs with a victory
automatically ensuing. A good start with 39 off 10 overs for the loss of no
wickets suggested our strategy was sound, however the introduction of Jacob and
Hall slowed things down with 9 maidens in the spell. The latter was keenly
striving for 2 wickets to reach 200 wickets. Again the pressure told and a
torrent of wickets occurred including a first ball gonad. Fearon had the
privilege of being Hall’s 200th victim and the score moved from a
healthy 76-0 to a nerve-jangling 76-4. However cometh the hour cometh the men
and the experienced Blackburn (sen) started the scoreboard ticking over again
with 12 off 14 balls. Lusty hitting by George and Brannigan took Nomads over the
finishing line with 3 overs to spare although a last minute scare saw the
dismissal of George and then Heslington to a another 1st baller. The
good run continues . Bring on the President’s XI next weekend |
