Sutton on the Hill v Lichfield Nomads

Scores:  Nomads 202 (46 overs); Sutton on the Hill 149 for 5 (38 overs)

Result:  Match Drawn

Nomads had struggled to raise a side for this match ending up with 9 men, however Sutton kindly gave us one of their players and we played 10-a-side. Hughes won the toss and decided to bat as we were still waiting for a couple of players. Booth and Gardner opened and started briskly at 5 per over against Day and Martindale. At 28 Gardner was out lbw to a good ball (as the outgoing batsman adjudged) and shortly after, Booth repeated a chip shot to mid on which was this time held. Hughes joined Weir but was soon bowled by Day who was mixing a lot of erratic bowling with the odd good ball. Weir decided to chance a sharp single and a quick pick up and throw just above the wicket saw Weir well short. No-one had yet made a big score but at over 4 per over Nomads were going along nicely as long as we did not lose too many more wickets. Rolf and Heslington kept things going until Rolf was caught off Ashford. Ody (nb not Hoddy) showed that he had not played for many years, perhaps not helped by being unsure whether to bat right or left-handed, and was caught at short leg without troubling the scorers. This brought in Hutton who batted excellently hitting 10 fours and a great six for an unbeaten 62 ably assisted by Pickering. A final score of 202 off 46 overs gave us a good chance for a rare win at Sutton.

Hoddy and Heslington opened against Duffill and Martindale. Martindale tried to hit a straight one from Hoddy out of the ground and was bowled. Tight bowling pegged the rate to less than 3 per over and in attempting to hit out both Hall and Duffill were caught, the latter a good catch on the boundary by Ody. Heslington was replaced by Hughes who had no success and then Hutton who bowled Trevath. Sutton had now settled to play for the draw and the match subsided to 149-5 off 38 overs.

Both Rolf and Hutton played well for the Nomads and it would be good to see both playing for us more regularly.
