Wednesbury v Lichfield Nomads
Scores: Wednesbury 197 for 8; Nomads 185 all out
Wednesbury won the Toss and decided to
Bat on a wicket that was damp due to early morning rain. Captain Westwood opened
the bowling but struggled with his line and length and allowed the opposition a
good start. This early accumulation of runs however was slowed by the accuracy
of Heslington bowling from the other end and the 1st change bowler
Moss, whose pace was always a problem for the batsmen and his 2 wickets included
the big hitting Thompson. Brannigan came on 2nd change and continued
the Nomads task in restricting the batting side with his pace and lifts.
After drinks on 81 - 2, Wednesbury
started to move up a gear and achieve a good total. Runs were scored but wickets
fell with Collins K taking 4 wickets, including the wicket of Bond who scored a
fluent 89 and Fearon 1 wicket. They eventually set the Nomads 198 to win.

Collins C playing with confidence opened the batting and seemed to be going
along nicely until Collins was cleaned bowled. Weir played one into the hands of
a close fielder in the covers but Moss came out and batted in his usual straight
and solid manner. The pitch was now drying out and Moss perished driving a
delivery that bounced a little more, whilst the score was moving along. Gardner
was now in his stride and was joined by Brannigan who played a cameo innings of
pulls and clean hits. At 146 – 4, the Nomads were on course and it looked as if
they had luck on their side when Amy Thompson appeared to drop Brannigan not
once but twice but then held it at the third attempt. A mid order collapse then
started with Captain Westwood cleaned bowled for 1 and Fearon, after a good
cover drive for 4, perishing to a full toss on off stump. Blackburn G lasted 2
balls and Heslington was out caught behind to a ball that moved away.3 of these
wickets falling to Snynom. Forster joined Collins K at 167 – 9 and they tried
valiantly, but to no avail, to reach the target, falling 13 runs short.
