Lichfield Nomads at the Bloxwich 6's Lichfield Nomads CC was given a handicap of 11 for the Tournament. Game 1 – Group Match. The Nomads won the toss and elected to bat against TFL. Gardner and Heslington started brightly and scored at a rate of 14/15 runs an over. Heslington was run out trying to make his ground towards the end but a good score of 69 had been achieved. With the handicap system leaving TFL to score 80 they set off in pursuit but never got close, Westwood in particular conceded few runs and a final total of 56 was well short. Game 2 – Group Match. Again, the Nomads won the toss and elected to bat this time against Secs 6’s. Westwood and Hughes opened the batting and scored freely with the exception of the fourth over which only accrued five runs. Hughes was eventually out by which a score of 51 had been posted. Secs 6’s went off in search of a total of handicap influenced 61 to win and after some big hitting had amassed 32 off the first two overs. Tight bowling by Hughes and Westwood bought the last over target to defend of 14 but the second ball off the final over from Heslington was hit for 6. This left only 8 was required from the last 4 balls. The next ball was hit straight for 2 leaving 6 from 3. Ball 4 saw the batsman clean bowled and the next ball was a dot ball. The final delivery was hit for 4 leaving the Nomads victors, in a close one, by one run and also finishing top of their group. Game 3 – Quarter Finals The Nomads received a bye through to the Semi Finals. Due to the deteriorating weather, further games were not possible, so bowl outs were used to determine the victors Game 4 – Semi Finals. Losing the toss to Wagon’s Wheels, the Nomads were asked to bowl the first ball and with all six players involved (and a neutral wicketkeeper) it was one all going into sudden death, with only George hitting the stumps for the Nomads. Brannigan duly obliged and failure by the Wagon’s Wheels bowler ensured the Nomads went through to the final. Game 5 – Final. Winning the toss, Nomads bowled first and Brannigan again hit the stumps and by being the only bowler to do so in this final bowl out, gave the Nomads victory and the trophy, the first in 30 years.
