D2 v Lichfield Nomads
Nomads Nick
another Win against D2 Police
After
missing 2 matches because of the weather , Nomads were looking forward to an
afternoon in the sun against D2 Police. Having lost the toss , Nomads took to
the field with Brannigan and Heslington able to utilise a new ball. The bat was
beaten several times and there were a few edges but the openers progressed
steadily by running quick singles and capitalising on the odd bad ball.
Brannigan was replaced by Hughes after his 6th over and Heslington
then took 2 wickets, one with a good return catch. Heslington was on top form
with a fine opening spell giving away just 13 runs and taking 2 wickets. Hughes
then bowled the dangerous opening bat MCS (initials and 1st names
appear to be used for security purposes by D2). Greaves came on for a 4 over
spell bamboozling the batsmen with his flight and lack of pace but the
occasional short ball on leg stump was dispatched to the leg boundary. George
and Hoddy came on to see out the innings with George claiming 3, one with an
even better return catch than Heslington’s, catching up with Hughes in the
wickets taken race and Hoddy with a tight spell of 24 off 8 for 2 wickets
(however it is possible that one of his overs may have been attributed to George
in the opposition scorebook). Nomads nearly bowled out the opposition for what
would have been the 7th time this season and kept the score down to a
gettable 189.
Gardner opened with Scott and a steady 3/over start gave a base to the innings.
Scott was unfortunate to get an inside edge onto his stumps for a creditable 12.
Gardner and Rolf upped the scoring rate until Rolf chipped a catch to square leg
when looking set for a substantial innings. However this brought Brannigan in so
the scoring was maintained. Again he looked set for a big score but misjudged a
low full toss and was bowled. Meanwhile Gardner had been run out going for a
second by a good piece of fielding and an assist by the wicketkeeper who took
the full force of Gardner’s helmet as Gardner dived to make his ground. McCumsky
entered the fray with George, who was very annoyed to be bowled by the worst
ball of the day on its second bounce., and commenced to take the bowling apart.
From a position where some doubts were creeping in, he and Heslington took
Nomads over the finishing line with 4 overs to spare as well as claiming his
first half century for Nomads off the last ball of the match.
In
post match interviews, Brannigan and George both felt ‘gutted’ to be out to such
bad balls, however George was looking forward to the opportunity to catch up to
and overtake Hughes in the bowling stakes with Hughes’ absence over the next 3
weeks
