Dan Moss was co-opted as captain for this match and put the opposition in.
Brannigan and Heslington opened the bowling but Heslington could not quite get
his length right and was replaced by Hoddy. Good spells by Hoddy and Brannigan
on a wicket which seemed full of runs saw 3 wickets fall plus one retirement at
50 by Waters who seemed capable of getting more. A dangerous looking Gardner (B)
retired hurt with a hamstring strain and the return of Heslington saw a better
spell with him taking 3 wickets. Westwood , Hughes and Moss also bowled well but
without taking any wickets. A score of 203-6 was imposing but Nomads were
optimistic with a strong batting line up and a fast outfield.
The opposition bowling attack did not seem quite as good as the batting and
Nomads got off to a fast start. However hopes were deflated when Moss was
unexpectedly clean bowled for 8. Westwood came in and took the fight to the
opposition and the early overs saw a run rate of 7 per over, well above the
required rate. The opposition were rotating the bowlers quickly and Gardner was
bowled by the 8th bowler (albeit one of their best) just 2 short of
his 50. However Brannigan continued the good work, he too falling just short of
a 50. Heslington with the aid of Hughes and Pickering saw Nomads over the line
with 4 overs to spare.
A good team performance saw Nomads achieve their long awaited 1st
victory of the season
