Walsall Health 243 for 8
Walsall Health won the toss
and batted. Nomads opened the bowling with Fearon and Hughes. Gorton was out
trying to pull a shortish ball from Hughes that kept low. Walsall lost wickets
at regular intervals, but D Preece kept going with some. Fearon was replaced by
Westwood and Hughes by Greaves, then George. Chuck fell trying to sweep a ball
outside the leg stump which he somehow dragged onto the stumps. P Blackburn
replaced Westwood at the bowling club end, while Fearon replaced George, then
Pickering came on for just one over, but still managed to take a wicket: D
Stephens, having hit one four to square leg, was bowled by another ball that
kept low. Preece eventually fell for 105, to a catch on the boundary by Scott
off Blackburn. Blackburn, who finished with 3-36, and Hughes bowled out the
final overs, but were unable to contain a final flourish from Hall, as Walsall,
with 10 men, reached 243-8.
Gardner struggled a little, before being bowled for 4 off 27 balls. Fearon
eventually managed to land some good blows and was then bowled. George went for
1, Westwood for 9 and Hughes for 14, all bowled. By now, at 85-5 off 22,
reaching the target seemed unlikely and Scott and Rolfe batted steadily against
some accurate bowling. The wicket seemed to be more difficult than earlier:
while still generally low, some balls would jump. There was some light relief
when N. Antcliffe went for 17 off a single 18-ball over. Scott was eventually
bowled for 21 off 88 balls, then G Blackburn was caught first ball. Rolfe (8 off
48 balls) and P Blackburn batted out the remaining overs, for Nomads to finish
on 113 for 7.
