Lichfield Nomads v Draycott & Hanbury

Lichfield Nomads 157 for 8 (40 overs)
Draycott & Hanbury 120 all out

Nomads trio bowl out Draycott and Hanbury.

After winning the toss, Captain Fearon decided to bat and the openers made steady progress against good bowling until Heslington was out caught behind from a wide ball with the score on 44. The momentum continued with Wier and Gardner and a fifty partnership developed. This was halted when Wier was out caught, after a good cameo and this bought Rolfe to the crease. The steady progress continued and Gardner was batting well but he succumbed to a caught and bowled by R Jackson after scoring 68. At this point the scoring slowed and wickets fell. As Rolfe kept the score ticking over at one end, R Jackson despatched another three Nomads batsmen to the pavilion in quick succession during a good spell of bowling at the other.. When Rolfe was eventually out, he had marshalled the score to over 150 and a final total of 157 was there to be defended.

A finger injury to one of the Draycott and Hanbury players meant that they would be two batsmen short in their innings as they started the game with only 10 men. The Nomads opening bowlers bowled as tight as they could but two dropped catches off the bowling of Fearon and one off Greaves’ first delivery meant that the Draycott openers were allowed to accumulate albeit at a rate that actually kept the Nomads in the match. The first wicket fell on 77 in the 19 over when Douglas was caught behind by Rolfe off Greaves. By the time Woodburn was stumped by Rolfe off Greaves for the second wicket down the run rate had slowed and Nomads players started to think they could possibly win. Greaves struck again three balls later. Forster bowled opener Elshout for 42 and now the Nomads were definitely in the ascendency. As the run rate slowed to a crawl, Greaves, after a fine spell of bowling was replaced by Ball. Forster caught and bowled S Jackson and by now the run scoring had stopped. Ball cleaned bowled Cotterill and R Jackson and when Forster had A Jackson caught by Greaves the game was won with only two overs remaining.
