Longdon
Longdon 94 all out 1st win of Season at Longdon
Despite a poor forecast the weather was sunny but cold. Longdon batted first and
Brannigan opened with another beamer(see Abbotts Bromley) and 8 off his first
over but after this it soon became clear that it would be difficult to bat on
this wicket as the ball gripped and popped up. This caused 2 early caught and
bowled for Heslington as the batsmen played early and popped up easy catches to
the bowler. The batsmen really struggled with only 2 into double figures. All
the bowlers gave little away and all claimed wickets. Nomads fielding was good
with 4 catches taken although 3 were dropped.
A
score of only 94 sounds as though it would be easy to reach, but on a track
where 120 would be a decent score it was never going to be easy.
This
proved the case with veteran openers Gardner and Heslington really struggling
against tight opening bowling, particularly from Bonser. Three wickets fell in
14 overs with only 23 runs scored. Rolfe and George upped the pace with some
quick running between the wickets but George was unfortunately a victim of
Bonser late in his spell after playing a couple of good looking shots. The new
bowlers were not quite as tight as the openers and Rolfe and Moss started to
score more freely, also running well between the wickets. However with the
scores level Rolfe took one risk too many and was run out. Brannigan strode in ,
cracked one ball through the fielder and strode out again. Match won.
A
good performance by Nomads saw the first victory of the season and unbeaten in
April.
