Lichfield Nomads 174 for 6; Moseley Fitmen 175 for 3
Nomads travelled down to Moseley with only 10 men, missing several of our
front-line bowlers. After slight delay caused by the late arrival of Moss from
his latest gig, Nomads elected to bat and got off to a slow start. Stanley was
caught by the keeper off the most delicate of edges and then Jones was run-out
by a direct hit from 20 yards. Rolfe and Moss had to consolidate and Moss was
slowed down by a slight hamstring strain. After the drinks break both players
accelerated and a couple of sixes were struck to a short leg-side boundary.
Rolfe was caught off a skier at long leg for his Nomads PB of 67 and shortly
after Moss toe-ended one back onto his stumps from wide of the wicket. Their
partnership had been 121. The remaining batsmen had no time to get set and a
final total of 174 was posted.
The score looked decent on a fairly slow pitch but Nomads had not got much
choice in their bowling attack.
The opening batsmen scored steadily off Westwood and Moss, although Moss had Tom
C playing and missing outside off stump. Westwood was rusty in his first game of
the season and proved more expensive than his partner. Hoddy entered the attack
and had Bice caught by Moss at Square leg, also there was a bizarre dismissal
when Hawarth stood on his wicket, and then a flighted slower ball had Tom C
playing around the ball. Unfortunately a very close lbw call which the umpire
thought about for a long time was turned down and a very sharp caught and bowled
chance to Hoddy was not held. This effectively saw the end to any winning hopes
and the 2 batsmen reached their target with 10 overs to spare.
Against a good side , Nomads would need a full strength side and have things
going for them to achieve a victory
