Nomads Battered by Aussie “Kiwi”

Nomads played at the Lichfield ground for possibly the 1st time. Moss put the opposition in and they scored at a reasonable rate but Brannigan and Heslington and then Moss and Hoddy kept things reasonably under control and at the drinks interval D2 were at a respectable 78-1. However after this the opposition began to go for it. MCS and Skew and then Kiwi ( the Aussie - don’t ask me where D2 get the names from)  really turned the screw, scoring a further 82 off 10 overs. At 160 off 30 overs hopes were that if we could keep them near 200, we had a chance on a pitch with a lot of runs in it.  Then things went really wrong, when despite, probably, our 3 best bowlers bowling, a further 128 were scored in the last 10 overs.

Despite a dodgy decision not to give a run-out and a catch off a no-ball, the mid –order batting was  too good for us and the chances of any victory looked remote.

Gardner and Heslington started slowly to offset any chance of a total humiliation and to gain some time in the middle. Gardner was caught and then Heslington run out being sent back for what appeared to be an extremely tight single. Then Moss and George started to play some flowing shots. With a little more care George should have been able to reach his 50 but was caught. Stanley had some time in the middle and the innings reached 188-4.

Ignoring the carnage at the end of the opposition innings, the game could have been quite close as we reached 188 without really going for it .However it is good to see our middle order batsmen consistently making good scores as this has often been lacking in the past.
