Nomads target proves too much.

With only 8 men and a borrowed fielder Sunseekers put the Nomads in and Moss and Heslington opened. Both played sensibly and gave opener Longdon maximum respect as he was moving it both ways and getting good lift. They looked to capitalise on the bowling from the other end. Heslington was caught for 14 and Moss played on to a wide one on 34. Gardner was bowled for 19 and at drinks the Nomads had a useful 120 on the board. Jones (12), Rolfe (41) and Brannigan (31) all kept the score rattling along before a late order collapse brought Sunseekers back into the match. Blackburn (P) and Hughes were bowled in consecutive balls and Fearon was run out. The final pair of Hoddy and Graeme Blackburn added a useful partnership before Hoddy was caught in the final over with the total on 235.

Longdon and Nicholls opened brightly and Heslington suffered some harsh treatment. The outfield was quickening in the drying sun and the boundaries were totting up. The opening stand of 61 came to an end with Hoddy’s first over. He tempted Nicholls to go for the big one and Moss took a stunning steepling catch on the boundary. Longdon then took on the mantle and reached his 50 and at drinks the game was in the balance. The introduction of Hughes brought the breakthrough the Nomads needed. Longdon was bowled by one that kept a little low with the score on 151. Jackson played across a straight one and was judged lbw.
Sunseekers continued to score at close to the asking rate but a caught and bowled by Hughes and a couple of wickets for Fearon, including the obligatory slower ball, meant that the shortage of batsmen would prove costly for Sunseekers. The final pair added 18 before Bennett played on to Fearon and Nomads were victorious by 43 runs.
