Nomads gain another Victory in Rain interrupted Match

Anticipating the rain interruptions promised by the forecast, it was agreed to play a 30 over match. Nomads chose to bat and after 7 overs had scored a magnificent 59 due mainly to George plundering the bowling of Douglas. At this point umpire Greaves came off shortly followed by umpire Forster. The rain then came down steadily, tea was taken and then the opposition kept themselves entertained with a game of football whilst Nomads consulted the weather gods, available on smart phone. It seemed possible the weather might improve and shortly after 3-30pm it stopped raining. After some consultation it was decided to swap pitches and the game proceeded. The opposition thought it was now 25 overs whilst Nomads were sticking to 30 overs. However 25 overs was finalised, probably the correct decision. George got over excited and was stumped charging down the pitch. However Scott came in and after a slow start proceeded to collect several 4s and Gardner increased his tempo hitting the only 6 of the match. Gardner was out after 14 overs having scored 55. Moss was then undone by a ball which kept low having survived a very close run-out appeal. Scott perished with a ball which came down the hill and Heslington was bowled round his legs, not understanding how he missed the ball. The rest of the team eked out a few more runs in the last 4 overs and a total of 148-8 was achieved.

A swift turn around took place and an early wicket was obtained when Clement attempted a suicidal 2nd run in the 1st over. Then Heslington took a wicket off his short run. There followed a spell of super fielding by Nomads. Firstly Forster, having been placed on the long-off boundary in anticipation of some big hitting, took a running one-handed catch to dismiss S Jackson, who had scored a century against us earlier in the season, and then Heslington caught a full bloodied pull shot at backward square leg to dismiss Hickman. Moss and Cartwight bowled tightly , each claiming a wicket, one of which as a result of another superb catch by George diving at mid-wicket to take the ball an inch off the ground. By that time the game was effectively over and Greaves, George and a final over by Stanley completed the 25 overs.
