Nine man Blythe blitz Nomads
A peculiarly lack-lustre bowling performance from
the Nomads and some high quality batting sealed a 45 run victory for Blythe
Bridge over Lichfield Nomads.
Moss and Heslington began bowling steadily enough
but two early wickets were not an indicator of events to come. The Nomads
bowling was well below par as Blythe peppered the boundaries at will on an
unusually sunny September afternoon in Blythe Bridge. Every gap in the hedge and
fence was found and the Nomads spent more time in the adjoining fields than on
the pitch. Moss and Hoddy brought some sanity to the proceedings with 3 wickets
each. But Josh Need retired not out on 55 and Hollins returned to reach a well
deserved century as the hosts compiled a daunting 235 for 7 off their allotted
35 overs.
It is worth noting that an excellent tea was
served up including hot chilli and rice, hot dogs and chips and home-made cake.
The Nomads batting was positive and Weir and
Gardner looked good. Gardner was dropped in the slips but was caught a few overs
later playing a similar shot. Weir was bowled for 20. Rolfe pushed the score on
too before being bowled for 17. Moss and
Fearon added the largest partnership of the innings and the Nomads were in with
an unlikely chance of victory as the scoreboard raced along at eight an over
thanks to some sweetly timed shots and a plethora of wide deliveries. Blythe
turned to the better bowlers to stave off the Nomads charge and Moss (29) fell
first and was soon followed by Fearon (24) who was bowled by a swift delivery
that grazed the top of off-stump. Heslington (5), Blackburn (0) and Cartwright
(0) were all bowled. Forster and Hughes added an entertaining partnership at the
end. Hughes finishing on a season’s best 23 not out. Blythe Bridge won by 45
runs.
