Nomads washed away at Longdon

Nomads travelled with 10 men, after a late withdrawal by Dave Forster due to a bad back, to a match which had been in doubt because of the wet conditions. With a 30 over match agreed upon due to the threat of showers, Nomads elected to bowl after winning the toss. The bowlers struggled with their length and it was realised during play that the wicket had been laid out to 24 yards. This, along with the damp pitch, gave the batsmen plenty of time to see the ball, particularly Taylor who was only bowled on the last delivery of the innings after scoring 73. Taylor plundered the bowling of Hoddy, Harrison and Westwood whose bowling styles were not suited to the conditions and a total of 169-8 was achieved.

During the interval we got a sharp rain shower, and this made batting more difficult, however Nomads should have done better than 72 all out. Besides a brief flurry from Dan Brannigan, the only player who looked comfortable was Dave Pickering. Let’s hope that we start getting better when weather conditions improve.
