Sunseekers find the Sun at Bit End

On the first Sunday of real cricketing weather, Nomads overcame late injury scares to field a full 11 plus the services of Dave Forster as umpire. Captain Rolfe, uncertain of his bowling attack, agreed with the opposition to each bowler having a maximum of 10 overs, and Nomads opened the attack with Moss and Hutton. Hutton was fortunate to get a wicket with a first ball loosener, a rank long hop being firmly struck into the safe hands of Moss. However Blaver played sensibly, waiting to take advantage of the loose ball on a fast outfield. He was essentially the difference between the teams and rode his luck, Nomads not taking their chances to dismiss him. He survived a possible caught behind with a number of Nomads convinced he had hit the ball, however the umpire was not sure , the batsman said no and also, to be fair several Nomads , including the slip, were  not sure he had hit the ball. Taylor, returning after a long injury, was probably our best bowler despite Hutton and Hoddy getting 8 wickets between them.

A score of 176 looked a gettable target on the hard pitch.

Nomads never really got going, suffering the fall of 2 wickets in the 3rd over. The bowling was erratic but Lee in particular bowled enough good balls to trouble the batsmen. Moss was looking good but snicked one to the keeper and it looked to be our last chance of victory. However Pickering, who is having a good batting season so far, and Rolfe, batting with a badly-bruised thumb built a partnership of 60 which raised hopes again. At this point the scorer pointed out that Nomads were actually slightly in front of the score of Sunseekers having  lost the same number of wickets. The big difference was that Sunseekers still had a player in, having made his 50, who proceded to accelerate the run-rate whereas Nomads had the lower order batsmen trying to get their eye in. As expected Nomads were unable to keep the runs coming and succumbed to a loss by 46 runs
