Village Thump Nomads

On a sunny but chill day, Nomads were left hanging about by the late arrival of Village, particularly the 3pm arrival of 5 team members due to a puncture. This left us with a 3-15pm start and a 35 over match. Moss lost the toss and Village batted. A good start with a wicket from Moss which barely got the bails flashing gave rise to false hope as Abdullah and Rajgor then proceded to take the bowling to pieces, driving well and also dispatching off line balls to the leg side boundary. Hutton was keeping a rein on the scoring but, unfortunately, his knee injury flared up and he was only able to bowl 4 overs. There were half-chances, a catch on the boundary coming out of the sun was dropped, and a good appeal for a stumping was turned down, but the 2 batsmen looked  very good, piercing the field with ease and a score of 260 off 35 overs looked out of reach.

Was this the same Village side we beat fairly easily last year?

Gardner and Jones opened and Pete was somehow bowled round his legs much to the amazement of the spectators. Jones played some nice shots and was unlucky to be caught from a well hit shot that would have been 4 if hit a few feet in any other direction. Liam Taylor added his contribution to the Gonad Competition. Westwood and Heslington both tried to force the pace against the useful, young leg-spinner and were bowled. Moss valiantly kept the ball out from the aptly named Bowl who was flighting the ball in from the sinking sun (some provision with the opposition will have to be made to bowl from one end only if the sun is too off putting), and when conditions improved let rip to score 28 runs off 9 balls. Pickering contributed to his average with 6no.

Nomads were well beaten by a side we were expecting to do well against.
