Draycott & Hanbury v Lichfield Nomads

Result: Lichfield Nomads beat Draycott & Hanbury by 4 runs.

Nomads clutch Victory from the Jaws of Defeat

Nomads lost the toss and were sent in to bat. Openers Gardner and Moss struggled to score quickly against a tight D&H attack, Moss especially emulating K2 in his scoring rate. After 17 overs at 3 per over, Gardner was bowled for the 2nd week running behind his legs. Weir did not last long but then Hutton soon found the range of the bowling striking several 2s before edging a skier attempting to up the run-rate. D&H were ringing the bowling changes but none of the bowlers could be put in the cafeteria class (help yourself). Heslington was starting to score but an excellent pickup and throw aided by a sudden muscle pull found him a couple of paces short of the crease. George’s batting looked  elegant as usual and Moss started taking more risks which saw him bowled. Rolfe, trying to eke out a few more runs, claimed a gonad and the innings ended at 146-6.

The final score looked at least 20 short of a decent score but was, at least, a target.

Moss and Heslington, having to come off a short run,  struggled with length for the first few overs and D&H scored freely. Cartwright and Hoddy were brought on to try to stop the flow and both claimed wickets to bring things under control. Harrison had a tight 3 overs and Moss and Heslington came back. Their 2nd spells were much better and whilst the runs slowly crept towards the target, wickets also fell regularly. Cottrell looked to be steering D&H to their target but was running out of partners. With only 11 to get, 3 wickets were left but 2 fell and on 142, 5 short of victory, George juggled a catch but hung on to give Nomads a valiant victory.

Nomads never-say-die attitude saw them through at the death giving them a much needed 2nd victory of the season.
