D2 v Lichfield Nomads

Result: Lichfield Nomads won by 174 runs.

Nomads win big in the hot weather.

After winning the toss, Lichfield Nomads decided to bat on a good wicket and Gardner with the help of Stanley got the score to 50 in the 9th over. Stanley was caught off a leading edge and was followed to the pavilion quickly by Wier. George got started but perished to a catch behind. Brannigan soon followed and Westwood got started, but was out to a straight forward catch. With the score on 124 for 6 and with 19 of the over’s still remaining, Heslington joined Hutton. Hutton, having earlier been felled by an edge off his bat proceeded to get stuck in to the D2 police bowling with some clinical hitting that saw a record partnership of 125 for the seventh wicket achieved in only 14 over’s. It was Hutton’s maiden century and a fine knock it was. In the end a total of 277 for 7 was achieved, a formidable one for the D2 Police to get.

The Lichfield Nomads opening bowlers, Brannigan and Heslington, ensured the D2 Police did not get off to start they had wished for, with the score at 12 for 3 from 4 over’s. Captain Marsh kept the bowling honest and when bowling changes came wickets continued to fall. The best efforts of Mad Mick were soon bought to a halt when he was clean bowled by Westwood and that was quickly followed by a run out with a batsman nowhere in sight. The introduction of Taylor, with prodigious swing and movement and Hoddy with prodigious guile and wicket hitting, kept the D2 police total down and when Westwood bowled the final wicket the margin of victory was as emphatic as any in recent times.
