Result: Coftonians beat Lichfield Nomads
by 3 wkts. Miserly bowling proves to be the Nomads undoing N
The Nomads came up against an attack determined to give nothing away. Bryant
bowled straight through to record outstanding figures of 8-5-6-3, finishing with
5 maidens in a row. Even the normally fluent Moss found scoring difficult making
30 from 52 balls. A score of 60-5 at drinks did not offer much hope of setting a
challenging total. Contributions from Hutton (19), Lloyd Taylor (15) and Rolfe
(14*), aided by 25 extras left the final score at 127 all out, with 3 overs
left. It did not look to be enough.
Moss and Heslington opened the bowling and both started with a maiden. Hopes
soared. The next two overs saw 27 scored. Hopes dropped. The Nomads needed
wickets, and lots of them, to stand any chance.
64-0 at the end of the 8th over was the nadir. The
introduction of Lloyd Taylor made an immediate impact with a wicket in his first
over. In the next over, Cartwright joined the party. Stanley rediscovered the
lost art of catching as Asam departed for 57, off the bowling of Taylor.
With wickets and overs to spare, it was always going to be difficult to apply
enough pressure. Cartwight made an excellent catch off Hutton, who followed up
by clean bowling the No 7. Alas, too little too late. Coftonians clinched
victory with 20 overs to spare.
