Only rain can stop the Nomads
The Nomads welcomed new opponents Aston Unity to a cloudy Bit End.
Having survived one LBW appeal, Stanley departed in the same manner in the first
over. Jones and Westwood made steady, but unspectacular progress reaching 26 in
the 10th over before Jones was run out. Westwood and Hutton added 68
for the 3rd wicket reaching 94 in the 19th over. Brannigan
came in and helped Hutton add 80 for the 4th wicket in quick time.
Both fell with the score on 177.
177-5 at 30 overs raised hopes that a score around 250 might be achieved. Hughes
scored 22 from only 15 deliveries. Countering this, Chaurha conceded only 5 from
his last 4 overs. A total of 227-8 is that one that looked to be competitive.
During the tea interval the skies became greyer and the clouds lower. A
persistent drizzle set in. Taylor and Hutton opened with some tight overs
without taking a wicket. The stage was set for Hoddy. He took 2-3 in 3 overs. It
was nearly 3 as Stanley just failed to hold a diving chance in the slips. The
rain was becoming heavier with little prospect of cessation. With the score at
34-2 at the end of the 12th over the match was abandoned. It turned
out to be a wise decision as the rain became heavier and heavier throughout the
early evening.
