Nomads Fight Back to Claim Victory

The match venue was not known until late in the week as Shugborough and Bit End both became unavailable. The game was eventually played at Kings Newton. Nomads batted first opening with Heslington and Stanley, who was a trifle unlucky to be given lbw after scoring 1 run. Westwood pushed singles to a well-set field, finding it difficult to reach the boundary. He showed his frustration hitting out to an accurate ball. However Hutton came in and continued in his rich vein of form and ably backed up by Heslington the score reached 121-2 when Heslington was caught. However with Brannigan and Fearon to bat, a 200 total seemed possible. However the new bowler Ramki was causing problems with his unorthodox action. Brannigan, Fearon and Hutton, attempting a big 6, were taken by him and then after Taylor had to retire with a pul,l the aim was to bat out the overs. However Ramki continued plundering wickets and the total reached was only 157 in 37.5 overs.

Knowing our opponents, we realised we would have to take all the wickets to win the match.

Brannigan was a little erratic  and quite expensive for him. Hoddy missed a catch at fly slip off his bowling when he saw the ball a little late. Stanley took a good catch in the  slips off Heslington  and Pickering took one off Westwood. However when Hoddy and Hutton came on wickets began to fall. Hoddy was accurate was unlucky not to gain an lbw with 3 good shouts, there were also 2 close run out decisions not given. Hutton had a good head of steam and had a hat trick chance. The wickets fell at regular intervals and 9 wickets were down with 30 still to get. However the last 2 batsmen were stubborn and chipped away at the target. Rolfe had a difficult decision on who to bring on after Hoddy and picked Westwood. This eventually paid off when he claimed the last wicket to a good catch by Hutton in the deep.

An exciting match which it was good to win against worthy opponents. Hutton deservedly claimed MVP for the match
