Lichfield Nomads Cricket Club : Match Reports 2016 |
|
Nomads struggled to raise a team against new opponents and played with 2 guests,
Ian Terry and James Fearon, son of Paul, both of whom acquitted theselves well.
The facilities were not as good as anticipated at the well appointed Rolls-Royce
Social Club and in particular one of the boundaries was only some 30 yards away
from the wicket.
Rolfe lost the toss, unusually for him, and Nomads bowled. Hutton and Lloyd
Taylor bowled spendidly having the batsmen in a lot of trouble and keeping the
scoring to a minimum. However 3 dropped catches proved costly and with the
change of bowling and the batsmen using their League experience to enter T20
mode to target the short boundary, the score began to mount. Hughes in
particular was savaged. However he did get a wicket with a typical Forster catch
at mid-off and the other opener retired which was to prove contentious later on.
Fearon (Sen) and Hoddy entered the fray and slowed the run-rate to 5 per over.
Hoddy started to take wickets aided by good catches and a stumping, ending up
with a total of 6, although the opposition scorers allowed him to bowl 9 overs.
At this point the retired batsman wanted to return, but our rules expert,
Hughes, pointed out that no prior agreement had been made and it was also
suggested that the opposition total was sufficient. No tea had been provided, as
was known, and indeed the club
seemed shut for the bank holiday and with the light threatening to fade a quick
turnaround was accomplished.
The opposition bowling proved more than adequate and really no one contributed
greatly to the score. Stanley ground things out to earn a welcome 21 and guest,
Ian Terry, accumulated 15, but good catches and bowling in depth proved too good
for the Nomads who scored only 90 runs.
The opposition were of too high a standard, undoubtedly containing League
players. There were hints that this was not the usual team but nevertheless this
was not an enjoyable match for Nomads who do not mind losing as long as things
are not too one-sided.
