Scores: Lichfield Nomads CC 120 for 6, Longdon 121 for 7. Westwood Reaches 100 Wickets at Longdon Nomads started their season at local rivals Longdon after being unable to raise a team the previous week for Bugbrooke. Rolfe lost the toss and Nomads were put into bat. Inspired by the captain’s team talk, Terry and Moss got off to a bright start but were pegged back by steady bowling and excellent fielding, particularly by Cal. Gardner replaced Terry but was caught off a top edge after hitting one six. Weir claimed the first gonad of the season after a unanimous appeal for caught behind, although he did not think he had hit it. Westwood struck a steady 16 and Hutton was unlucky to be caught to an excellent diving catch by Cal. Rolfe and Hughes contributed and the innings reached 120. On the low side but it still gave us a chance on a pitch that was never easy for the batsman. Hutton claimed an early wicket with a ball that kept a touch low, but Chambers and Taylor pushed the score along keeping well up with the run-rate. Moss bowled a very economical spell, also claiming a wicket but it was Westwood who had the most success. After an edgy start he started taking wickets with his usual variety of balls and on his 2nd success attained his 100 wickets for Nomads joining the 1000 runs & 100 wickets club. Hoddy had 3 overs without any success and Hughes had a good spell taking a wicket. Nomads were not having much luck with a lot of playing and missing and inside edges missing the stumps. However Bonser saw Longdon over the finishing line with an unbeaten 26. A typical Longon low-scoring match saw Nomads a few runs short of a good total, some 20 odd runs being saved by athletic fielding, and whilst Nomads were always in with a chance, Longdon had enough in reserve to see them through.
