Thrilling Last Over Victory for Nomads

Nomads for the second season  played Stafford Strikers at Kings Bromley due to the unavailability of their ground at Shugborough. A lovely cricketing day saw Nomads bowling first after losing the toss. The opposition got off to a flying start , Shantanu being particularly harsh on Heslington, although Moss was bowling very tightly. Hutton was brought on and bowled the dangerous Shantanu and then proceeded to take more quick wickets . Maddy was a trifle unlucky when he defended and the ball rolled back onto his stumps and just dislodged one bail. More wickets fell and from a commanding position Strikers fell to 142-9 wickets. However a brave last wicket stand saw another 37 runs added to give Strikers reasonable hopes of a victory

With a fast outfield and a good batting side , Nomads were reasonably confident of securing victory .

Gardner and Jones opened, with Jones playing some good-looking shots , so it came as a surprise when he was bowled by Muthu. Weir also went quickly to the same bowler but then Moss and Gardner started to develop a partnership which yielded 55 runs. Gardner and Heslington departed and Moss just failed to reach his 50. This saw us with 6 wickets down and 60 runs to get in 10 overs. A daunting task but with Brannigan and Fearon in , there was still hope as was demonstrated when Fearon’s first 2 shots were 4 and 6. The two players kept up with the required rate and a penultimate over yielding 9 allayed fears somewhat. The last over required 3 runs to win but dot, 1, dot, run out  piled on the tension. However Capt. Rolfe came in and off a high full toss top edged over the keeper for 4 to give us the victory.

A really exciting game showed us what we play cricket for. COYN
