Result: Lichfield Nomads beat Woore by 5 wkts.

Nomads win at Woore

Nomads elected to bowl first on a wicket dampened by morning rain. With 7 bowlers to choose from, Capt Rolfe opened with Moss and Heslington who gave little away and whilst the openers survived, they could not score quickly. Ellsmoor was a little unlucky when his back foot deflected the ball back onto his stumps. This brought in minor celebrity Nick Hancock who was much more aggressive and became the highest scorer on either side with 41 runs. Hutton and Westwood took over maintaining control and then Hughes and Cartwright continued in the same vein. Hoddy came on and although he did not bowl consistently somehow managed to take 5 wickets, and Woore subsided to 123 all out.

Nomads fielded well taking 6 catches and a run out, even though they also missed 4 difficult catching chances. Even though the pitch was not that easy to   score runs on, the total seemed to be well within reach.

Our confidence was somewhat dented when Gardner was out for 0 in the first over and Terry in the 4th over. Moss realised that the best policy was to dig in, not opening his account until the 14th ball he faced. Heslington was scoring quite freely but was undone by the lofted elevation produced by the leg spinner, Hughes. Stanley was given lbw for 0. This caused some debate amongst the spectators but having the technology of  ‘DazCam’, a recording was replayed and it was agreed the decision was umpire’s call. Westwood was out showing too much aggression in the circumstances and with the score at 49-5 an unexpected result looked a possibility. However Hutton restrained his attacking style and the 2 batsmen steadily accumulated runs and then let fly when the target was in sight safely attaining victory.

Another win for Nomads keeps a winning season on target although there are some tough matches coming up.
