Bromley 2-22) Cannock Wood 81 all out from 26.1 overs (Bromley 24, Higginson 4-24, Moss 3-13, Fearon 2-14) Lichfield Nomads won a close contest against Cannock Wood at Bud Road by just 18 runs. The Nomads batted first and struggled to reach 99 for 7. Cannock Wood had victory in sight but were eventually bowled out for just 81. Bromley took two early wickets to seize the initiative for Cannock Wood. Then Moss was hit on the nose by a rising ball and had to leave the field for treatment. The middle order wilted in the unseasonal sun and the Nomads were reduced to 51 for 7. An invaluable stand of 48 by Higginson (32 n.o.) and Forster (18 n.o.) saw the Nomads bat out the 40 overs and helped the score to 99 for 7. Cannock Wood needed exactly 100 to win and Griffiths and Powis started confidently before Griffiths was bowled by Higginson, who took the first three wickets, including the dangerous Powis (21), on his way to 4 for 23. The unlucky Heslington picked up just the one wicket and the game was in the balance at 46 for 5 when West and Bromley steadied the ship and guided Cannock Wood to 78 for 5, only 22 short of victory. Moss and Fearon were then given the chance to bowl the closing overs and Moss had Bromley (24) caught at mid-on and Fearon clean bowled Hithes. While West was still at the crease Cannock Wood still looked slight favourites but Moss removed him caught and bowled for 14. J. Sharp was caught by a diving Hussein off Fearon (2 for 14) and Moss (3-13) wrapped up the innings by bowling Healey. For the second week running Lichfield Nomads had won by 18 runs. |
