Lichfield Nomads made it three wins out of three this season as they beat Friary Grange in a tense finish at Barton to retain the Stuart Ellison Trophy.
Friary Grange won the toss and batted first.  Fearon removed opener Skermer, bowled for 2. Higginson bowled Tyler, who had looked dangerous. Then, wickets began to tumble at regular intervals, with only Willoughby holding up the one end. Friary Grange were reduced to 87-8, thanks mainly to three wickets and tight bowling by Forster. Willoughby was joined by Tyler and the pair constructed a valuable unbroken partnership of 46 which gave Friary a respectable total of 133 for 8.

Nomads reply was somewhat stuttering. After a promising start, Hussein fell with the score on 25 and the Nomads self-destructed to 29-4. Moss was caught at backward point, Pinfield was bowled and Higginson was cruelly run out. Fearon and Gardner then built the match winning partnership. Firstly they saw off the opening bowling attack and then set about the second string bowlers. Gardner batted very aggressively, given the match situation and this paid off as Friary were put on the defensive. Fearon batted more cautiously but was also punishing against the odd wide delivery both sides of the wicket. Fearon finally fell for a hard earned 18 with the score on 95-5. Hoddy and Gardner then added a valuable 22 runs. However, if the Nomads thought the game was won Friary had other ideas and they chipped away at the nervous Nomads batsmen. Hoddy was bowled by Willoughby and Gardner was one of Tylers three victims bowled for a top scoring 71. The final pair, Blackburn and Willis came to the crease with 10 runs still needed for victory. What they lacked in speed they made up for in experience. Willis soon grabbed a single and then Friary capitulated in the closing stages. First by conceding 4 byes and secondly by delivering a wide which raced all the way to the boundary for an additional 4 runs, willed on by cheers from the watching Nomads. There was some confusion until the players confirmed that this was now 5 runs and Nomads had clinched a famous victory with 10 balls to spare.
