Revesby v Lichfield
Nomads
Lichfield Nomads won the first match of the 2005
August Bank Holiday Lincolnshire tour by 53 runs thanks to a record breaking
bowling performance by John Hoddy. With Pete Blackburn away in Monaco watching Liverpool beat CSKA Moscow in the Super Cup, Mal Pinfield was captain for the day. He won the toss and elected to bat. The Nomads made a solid start and the top five all got in but only Gardner, who made 33 went on to threaten 50. The middle order and the tail collapsed somewhat as Nomads slumped from 110 for 4 to 126 all out. Fixter picked up 4 wickets for Revesby. The total seemed barely defendable but Hoddy soon had other ideas and he picked up a wicket in each of his overs apart from the 7th over, which was a maiden, as Revesby were reduced to 32 for 7. The first 7 wickets all falling to Hoddy. His haul could have been greater but for the 8 overs maximum per bowler limit. L.J. Stedman and C. Liversedge added 40 for the 8th wicket but when Coleman removed Liversedge the innings was finished off quickly and they were all out for just 73 runs, giving Lichfield Nomads a 53 run winning margin. Hoddy had bettered the previous club record of 7 for 11 by Mark Heslington against Sedgeley Casuals that dated back to 26th June 1988. Click here for more details. |
