Coombs Wood ease to convincing win
The Nomads lost by 175 runs thanks to 87 from Butterworth, 56 not out from Perruza and 45 from K. Baker. Heslington (2-46) and Hoddy (1-2) returned the best figures for the Nomads bowlers. In the Nomads reply of 100 for 9 Caygill hit a useful 34 and Pete Blackburn scored 19 not out batting at number 10. Boswell was the pick of the Coombs Wood bowlers with 3 for 16.

A very short boundary square on the Scoreboard side of the ground proved a tempting target for the Coombs Wood batsmen. A typically tight spell of bowling from Hoddy kept the scoring rate down at the start. With the score at 39 for 3 and even 71 for 4, hopes were high of restricting the opposition to a manageable score. However later batsmen started to find their range with increasing frequency. One decided to opt for some variation by going straight; over the boundary, over the fence, over the road, and then over the fence on the other side of the road. Still only six runs though. The final score of 275 presented a massive challenge. The skipper gambled on making a rapid start with an aggressive look to the top order. However the bowling proved to be tight and wickets fell regularly. It became evident within a few overs that respectability was the only realistic objective. Caygill stroked a comfortable looking 34, putting on the highest partnership of the innings (28) with Stanley before being run out going for a third run. Blackburn P enjoyed a flourish at the end to take the team score into three figures. Consequently he now enjoys a lofty position in the batting averages (allegedly)
