Nomads played Sunseekers away for the first time, at Mugginton. Arriving for an early start in the sun at the picturesque Mugginton ground, Nomads won the toss and elected to bat. The regular openers, Gardner and Terry, made a brisk start, helped by a generous number of extras and had 50 on the board within 11 overs. Gardner was out top edging a lifting ball from John Longdon, the pick of the bowlers, for 27. Soon after Terry was out to a spectacular one-handed catch in the outfield for 36. Adam Hughes and Dan Moss were pegged back by the bowling and Nomads had reached only 131 after 30 overs. It looked as though a score of about 180 might be all that could be expected but Jones came in and scored a quick 20 and then our big hitters Brannigan and Fearon came in. With Brannigan hitting 4 fours in one over and Fearon striking a six achieving a very respectable total of 222-5.
Looking at the Sunseekers scorebook showed that they had achieved several scores over 200 so Nomads had no false illusions about an easy victory.
Hutton and Moss started with their usual economic bowling against an assured pair of openers. After half their allotted overs they were replaced by Fearon and Hoddy. The latter not having played for 3 weeks bowled a slow loosener which the batsman misjudged and was given out lbw. Wickets then steadlily fell, aided by some excellent catches, with Brannigan taking 4 off his short run and Hutton claiming 3 to dismiss Sunseekers in the last over on 169.
This was a very enjoyable game of cricket in excellent surroundings with Nomads claiming victory over a good Sunseekers side due to an excellent all round performance.
