Tipton St John C.C. v Lichfield Nomads C.C.

Nomads on Tour

Nomads met up at Tipton St John with the threat of thunderstorm for later on in the day.
Fortunately the rain kept away with the exception of a few drops which did not disrupt play. There were a bare 11 Nomads which included 3 of our new members. Nomads elected to bat opening with the former opening partnership of Gardner and Stanley. We started slowly and lost our first wicket, Stanley, in the 5th over with 9 on the board ; Gardner not lasting too much longer. However Brannigan started to biff the bowling around pushing the score along until a rush of blood saw him needlessly run out. The new player John Locksley also looked to push things along helped by Rolfe, until Rolfe was unfortunately run out when he did not react quickly enough to regain his ground when backing up. Another flock of Nomads ducks then came along with Basi, Cartwright and Hughes all claiming gonads. Pickering and Hoddy tried to stay with Locksley who unfortunately just failed to make his 50, trying to make as many runs as he could with the last man in.

During the tea interval, Nomads; caps were presented to Ghosal, Basi and Locksley.
Hughes and Cartwright opened with Hughes having some success by claiming 3 wickets. However with a meagre target of 108 to win Tulley and Thayre did not have to take any risks and once in sight of the target, Rolfe brought on some of his part-time bowlers to give them match practice and the total was easily attained in the 26th over.

Nomads had not got their strongest team out but we did not help ourselves with 2 run outs and 3 gonads. Without a generous spell of bowling by O'Higgins (33 off 4 overs), we could have failed to reach 100. Walker, a Devon under 16 player, bowled very well for the opposition claiming 4 wickets. A return fixture has been offered for next year if we wish to go down again.
