Nomads took on old rivals Church Eaton at Walsall. Owing to unavailability we had a scratch side but also probably one of the strongest sides we could put out. Gardner was unusually unavailable and so Rolfe opened the batting with Ghosal. They started at a brisk pace. Ghosal was out first bringing in Turnbull. Rolfe was batting well and was a bit unlucky to be run out with the fielder deflecting the ball and taking the pace off so the 2nd fielder had an easy run out. Moss came in and proceeded to reach 50, then retiring as agreed at the start of the match. Guest player East, who had replaced Turnbull, also just made 50 in the last over. Loxley and Basi contributed and Hutton had another unbeaten knock of 25.
This was easily Nomads best total of the season against a young Church Eaton side.
Church Eaton started their innings and Melbourn batted very well scoring an unbeaten 52 before retiring. There were minor contributions from S Goddard, Oliver and Pearce but Church Eaton did well to reach 107. In 37 overs. Melbourn did not exercise is prerogative of returning to bat preferring the bar instead.
It was a refreshing change to play a Church Eaton side who played the game in the right spirit after the problems of the previous week. It was unfortunate that we had such a good team out, as our more usual selection might have given a closer game. If we play them as a similar team next season we might be able to tailor the selection.
