Nomads travelled to play new opponents Yoxall. The ground was large and well-maintained with the ball travelling quickly to the boundary, especially off the bats of the Yoxall Batsmen. Stand in skipper, Dave (No Byes) Rolfe lost the toss and Yoxall batted. It could be seen that the batsmen had League experience taking full advantage of loose balls and pushing the fielders to take quick singles. There were a couple of run out chances, neither taken. Only 5 1st line bowlers were used and all had similar stats at the end of the match going for about 6 per over. These bowlers were Paul (silver fox) Fearon, Luke (I hate spinners) Turnbull, Dan (Rolling Stone) Moss, Stew (Goulash) Harrison, and John (Clockwork Mouse) Hoddy. The final target of 254-4 looked plenty to give Yoxall victory.
The tea was above average and Nomads went out with quite a strong batting unit hoping to push the bowlers.
Our cause was not helped when Fearon miscued a simple catch into the covers and then Neil (Fuzz) Weir called for a run when he edged the ball behind the wicket, perhaps not realising the fielder had stopped it. Pete (the run machine) Gardner dug in to steady the ship. Chris (the accountant) Jones finally got his first run of the season and was so overwhelmed that he was immediately bowled. Dan (Biffer) Brannigan scored a rapid 29 before being caught off a top edge. Turnbull, Harrison and Jas (Shirley) Basi went quickly (Basi joining the elite club of Nomads being dismissed by a girl) and then probably our strongest ever 9 and 10, Moss and Rolfe went in to see out the overs giving us a total of 146-9.
Yoxall were undoubtedly the better team but we did not have much luck when bowling and if we could have claimed another 2 or 3 wickets the game could have been much closer.
