The Nomads travelled all the way up to Buxton for a match originally organised to cater for those travelling back from the Test match in Manchester. However, although it was a long journey it was a picturesque one to an equally picturesque ground. For a change Capt Terry won the toss, and elected to bat in a 35 over match. Gardner and Terry struggled to score and, in facr, Terry was out without scoring picking out the fielder to give him a simple catch Barker came in and was looking confident but called for a quick single which just wasn’t there and was easily run out. Brannigan, unusually for him, scored all of his 11 runs in singles before miscuing a catch to the fielder. To be fair to the opposition, they probably gave most of their players a bowl whilst we were struggling and Dave Rolfe took advantage to score an excellent 57 before being caught in the covers by an excellent catch inches off the ground. Cogzell was run out with a splendid piece of fielding and in the end Hughes was left on his own, scoring 7no.
Buxton did field really well but it was another below par batting performance by Nomads to reach just 125, which put the pressure on the bowlers to perform well.
Mahmood and Hoddy opened the bowling but could not put any pressure on Mahmood took a wicket but was replaced by Hughes who did slow things down a bit. Brannigan replaced Hoddy but he was unlucky to be bowling against Bartholomew who struck his first 2 balls for sixes. Desperation measures were called for and first Barker with his leg spin and then Basri were called on. Somehow Basri took the wicket of Bartholomew , then next ball Allen courtesy of an amazing catch by Cartwright, and with his hat-trick ball just missed out with the ball just clearing Cartwright. However the remaining young batsmen were good enough to overtake the Nomads' total with overs to spare.
An enjoyable match against sporting opposition, the highlights being Dave Rolfe’s MVP performance with 57 runs, 2 catches and one stumping and 2 splendid catches by Cartwright. Also Basri reaching 3 wickets off 11 balls for the season so far.
